
The University of Denver's Women's Basketball team invites Girl Scouts, their families, and friends to cheer on the DU Pioneers as they take on the North Dakota Fighting Hawks at the Hamilton Gymnasium at DU Saturday, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m. During halftime, DU will offer prizes to Girl Scouts and their families and friends.
DU has invited Girl Scout Corinne to sing the National Anthem during the game’s opening ceremony and local a Girl Scout troop to act as the color guard. “I never imagined I would get the chance to sing in front of hundreds of people. I’m so grateful being a Girl Scout gave me this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” says Girl Scout Senior Corinne from Highlands Ranch.
Before the game at 11:30 a.m., Girl Scout attendees will sit down and hear from Coach Doshia Woods to learn more about 2023/2024 team, the importance of sportsmanship, building character through sports, resiliency, and the importance of being a part of a team.
Not only is Coach Woods an accomplished coach and basketball player, but off the court she has been a guest on various podcasts about leadership and team culture. As a featured speaker for the 2021 The Power of Positive Summit presented Jon Gordon, Woods discussed her transition from assistant to head coach. Additionally, Woods serves on various committees, including the University of Denver athletics department DEI, DU’s Black Community Advisory Board, and Tulane University Alumni Council for the school of professional advancement. Woods is an active member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and has also participated as a speaker for multiple roundtables and panels at national convention.
