Girl Scout History Center

Juliette Gordon Low, affectionately known as “Daisy,” was born on October 31, 1860, in Savannah, Georgia. She is best known for founding the Girl Scouts of the USA in 1912. Inspired by the Girl Guides movement in England, she returned to the United States with a vision to create an organization that would empower young girls and teach them valuable life skills. Despite facing numerous challenges, including her own health issues and societal expectations of women at the time, Juliette’s determination and passion led to the establishment of a movement that has since grown to include millions of members worldwide. Her legacy continues to inspire and shape the lives of countless girls and women, promoting leadership, community service, and personal growth.
