Can I join as an independent Girl Scout?

Yes! Earn badges, go camping, and more on your own schedule.

You can absolutely join Girl Scouts by yourself. This type of membership is known as an Individually Registered Member (IRM). Individually registered members are also known as Juliettes, named after our founder, Juliette Gordon Low. Juliettes choose how to participate based on their schedule and interests.

Joining as a Juliette is great for Girl Scouts without a troop available nearby or who want to enjoy Girl Scout programming with their family. They can get started right away by earning badges independently or attending events to meet other Girl Scouts in their area.

Badges signify that a Girl Scout completed all the steps needed to earn this recognition for the new skills they learned. Each badge takes a Girl Scout through the steps of learning about the skill, practicing, and demonstrating it. Badge topics range from the outdoors to STEM, or art, and even career exploration. They’re a great way to try something new and see if you enjoy it.

Once a badge is earned, it is sewn or ironed onto a sash or vest. A Girl Scout can earn new badges as they progress through each level, with activities becoming more challenging as they move up.

Love being outdoors? Follow your passion and sign up for outdoor programs as a Juliette. Older Girl Scouts can also attend one of our Outdoor Adventure Club programs as a Juliette and meet other Girl Scouts who share your enthusiasm for the great outdoors.

Expand your horizons by spending a week at camp in the summer or exploring local state parks. As a Cadette, Senior, or Ambassador (grades 6–12), you can even explore the United States—or the world!—by traveling to other Girl Scout camps.

Girl Scout Juliettes can launch their own businesses during the Fall Product and Girl Scout Cookie Program, earn rewards, earn business and financial literacy badges, and develop five essential skills: goal setting; decision making; money-management; people skills; and business ethics.

Juliettes do not earn proceeds from Fall Product items or Girl Scout cookies sold; only troops earn proceeds, not individual Girl Scouts.

However, by participating in product programs, Juliettes can earn reward items, camp discounts, Cookie Credits, and Juliette Program Cookie Credits. Cookie Credits and Juliette Program Cookie Credits can be used to pay for Girl Scout events with a per girl fee, GSCO overnight camps and day camps, travel, and so much more!

Not only can Juliettes earn rewards and Cookie Credits, a percentage of Juliette Program Cookie Credits earned through participation, will fund GSCO Girl Scout Juliette activities throughout the year!

How Juliette Program Cookie Credits are calculated

Juliettes will earn ½ credit for each item sold during the Fall Product Program and ½ credit for each package of cookies sold during the Girl Scout Cookie Program.

Examples:

For 30 items sold during the Fall Product Program, a Girl Scout Juliette will earn 15 Juliette Program Cookie Credits, and 15 credits will go into the Juliette Activity Fund.

During the Cookie Program, when a Juliette sells 150 packages of cookies, they will earn 75 Cookie Credits, and 75 Cookie Credits will go into the Juliette Activity Fund.

Be a boss and start your own business by participating in the Girl Scout Cookie Program. Juliettes can sell cookies in a structure supported by our council.

Not only can you earn Cookie Credits to put toward fun Girl Scout activities , but you’ll also help ensure Girl Scouting is possible for other members just like you.
