More than 100 girls will explore careers in construction and engineering at the annual "Build Like a Girl" event, a partnership between Kiewit Corporation and Girl Scouts of Colorado.
This event will be Monday, Oct. 13, at Kiewit’s training center (2551 Picadilly Rd, Aurora) in two sessions, 9 – 11:15 a.m. and 12 – 2:20 p.m.
Designed for Girl Scouts in grades 2 - 12, the workshop will feature interactive demonstrations and hands-on activities led by successful female employees from Kiewit, one of North America’s largest and most respected engineering and construction organizations.
Girls will have the opportunity to work with metal, concrete, and heavy machinery while sharpening their critical thinking skills and exploring non-traditional career paths with hands-on activities like:
"It’s no secret that the construction industry has historically been dominated by men, but as girls see more women leading in the skilled trades, they can see themselves in these essential careers," said Girl Scouts of Colorado CEO Leanna Clark. “At Girl Scouts of Colorado, we believe we must create more opportunities for girls to learn about the wide array of possibilities for their futures, and the skills, education, and training they’ll need to get there."
