What does it mean to be a citizen? How do laws get made? Who leads our communities-and how can you be a part of it all?
In this hands-on program, Girl Scouts will dive into the foundations of civics and government through interactive activities, creative problem-solving, and real-world connections. Whether you're just beginning to explore these topics or already a US government expert, this experience will help you build the knowledge and confidence to be an active and informed citizen.
Girl Scouts will:
- Step into the Halls of Power: Go behind the scenes to discover what government roles actually do.
- Become the Lawmaker: Journey from an idea to a legal reality by crafting and passing your own custom bill.
- Meet the Changemakers: Get face-to-face with a local civic leader for an exclusive, no-holds-barred Q&A session.
The thinking, questioning, and learning you do today is just the beginning! While this program continues to explore core concepts of government, civic engagement, and leadership, each year features new activities, guest speakers, and discussions. Whether you're joining us for the first time or returning for another year, you'll gain fresh insights, strengthen your civic knowledge, and build skills that can help you prepare for future opportunities like the National Civics Bee.
Juniors and Cadettes will be expanding on the topics above in their own group and participating in the Ultimate Civics Challenge.
All participants will earn their NEWLY designed Foundations of Democracy patch and earn their Democracy badge.
