The natural world is a vast, unrestricted learning laboratory for us to explore! We all love to use all our senses as we adventure in the outdoors as well as find peace exploring the beauty of this planet. In this Naturalist Hangout, your Cadette, Senior or Ambassador will complete activities celebrating or preserving the natural world.
Gardening for Nature – with kitchen herbs planting activity
Girl Scouts will explore how to garden with an emphasis on protecting and supporting nature. Topics will include pollinators, plant needs, organic gardening elements, water-wise growing, native plants, and the benefits of local food. The Girl Scouts will then create their own kitchen herb garden to place in a window and care for.
Materials:
- Soil (Herbs like well-draining soil with lots of nitrogen to keep them green!)
- Containers (1 for each herb you want to grow: can be cups with holes cut in the bottom, terra cotta pots, etc.)
- Herb seeds of choice
- Water
Registration will be required for each monthly activity event.
Families will receive a reminder email with a supply list and login information before each session.
Before this event, please take the time to review the Girl Scouts of Colorado's Internet Safety Pledge, and then virtually sign it with your girl. As always, safety is a top priority at Girl Scouts of Colorado, and we want to ensure she is staying safe while online.
