Outdoor Adventure Club

Attention girls in 6th through 12th grade: If you loved GIrl Scouting before, just wait, it gets even better! Be a risk-taker and attend an event with the GSCO Outdoor Adventure Club! The Outdoor Adventure Club (OAC) is a staff-led program offering outdoor adventures around the state that expose older Girl Scouts to outdoor activities and skills beyond what they might do with their troop. They also get a chance to make new friends from around the state!

Sign up for the interest list to be the first to know when registration opens! Events this season will include:

March: Meadow Mountain Ranch Winter Adventure
It’s a winter wonderland at Meadow Mountain Ranch! Join us as we snowshoe up the nature trail, sled down the hill behind the lodge, and work on our winter camping skills. Then go head-to-head with your friends in a Dutch oven bake-off over the campfire, a snow sculpture competition, and a Winter Olympics challenge! $50/girl.

April: Environmental Service Projects
Give back to your outdoor community with our annual service projects! We’ll spend our morning doing environmental service projects that may include trail maintenance, planting, invasive species removal, and park beautification. In the afternoon, we will provide some environmental education workshops and play fun nature games. $10/girl.

July: Cherry Creek State Park Boating Campout
Get ready for a fantastic camping and boating weekend! We will camp at Cherry Creek State Park where we will spend the night learning camping skills before gathering around the campfire for s’mores. After breakfast the next morning, we will break into smaller groups and get canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddle boards on the water. Your group will rotate between all the paddle crafts, splashing around on the water, and enjoying a nice hike at the park. Seniors will earn the paddling badge in full, badges will not be provided. $100/girl.

August: Twisted Pine Overnight and 14er Hike
We’re taking on our biggest outdoor adventure yet and summiting a 14,000 ft mountain! After an overnight at Twisted Pine, we will wake up early to hike the mountain (Bierstadt or Evans TBD) while supporting each other to reach our goals. Along the way, we will encourage you to challenge yourself and set your own pace and distance objectives. Get ready to spot mountain goats and marmots while taking in some of the most amazing views Colorado has to offer! $100/girl.

Introducing the brand new OAC Rock Climbing Series!

Introducing a new OAC program! This series is designed to give you the opportunity to deeply develop technical rock climbing skills over four full days of guided climbing trips. The first two trips will be day only in the Colorado Springs area, and the third trip will be an overnight experience at Shelf Road in Canon City! Throughout this series you will start with the basics of tying in and belaying on top rope and by the end you will learn more advanced climbing skills including climbing techniques, anchor building, how to lead a sport route, and how to lead belay. Everyone will earn their climbing badge in full, and the badge will be provided on the last day of the overnight trip. By signing up, you are committing to all three dates. During registration, sign up for either the beginner group (no climbing experience), or the intermediate group (can tie a figure-8 follow through knot and belay on top rope). Grants are available for this program and cookie credits are accepted. $300/girl girl.
