Knots have been used throughout history to help people secure ships,
climb mountains, convey spiritual messages in art, make beautiful
designs in fabrics, strap down a load, or create a fishing net! Today,
you may need knots for more everyday reasons like tying your shoes or
making a DIY leash for your dog. Knowing some basic knots is one sure
way to "be prepared," which is the Girl Scout motto!
FUN FACT: The original Girl Scout Handbook
taught girls how to tie a variety of knots and how to use one of these
knots to tie up a burglar with only 8 inches of rope: "How to
secure a burglar with eight inches of cord-make a slipknot at each end
of your cord. Tie the burglar's hands behind him by passing each loop
over his little fingers."
Patches and rockers can be purchased at History Center - CASH ONLY.
