Gain the skills to lead youth in high-adventure outdoor activities and connect with a community that shares your passion for the outdoors as you summit Pikes Peak! Join "Wild Wanderer" and Girl Scout volunteer Laura Clark on a guided hike up the Crags trail to the Pikes Peak Summit House. Along the way, learn about mountaineering in Colorado, leading Girl Scouts on outdoor adventures, and so much more.
Spend Saturday night at Sky High Ranch, a rustic camp in Woodland Park, and get a pre-sunrise start on the Crags trail. This 14-mile out-and-back hike at high altitude is moderately strenuous, with some rock scrambling near the summit. Participants should be ready to take on this hike with more than 4,000 feet of elevation gain and spend time at the summit more than 14,000 feet above sea level. The feeling of reaching the top of a mountain by foot is like none other!
Tentative schedule:
Saturday 6-8 p.m.: Check in at Sky High
Ranch. Eat dinner before arriving, or bring dinner to have at
camp.
Sunday:
4:30 a.m.: Grab and go breakfast and depart
Sky High Ranch for Crags Trailhead. Carpooling is recommended!
5
a.m.: Begin hiking! A non-perishable lunch will be provided.
4
p.m.: Hikers return to Crags trailhead and can return to Sky High to
retrieve vehicles or depart from trailhead directly.
Please note that this hike and schedule are weather-dependent! If possible, an alternate guided hike will be provided if summiting is not safe on the day of the trip.
A detailed packing list and more will be sent to participants before this event.
