All adults are invited to step into the great outdoors for a weekend dedicated to learning, connecting, and growing. Take part in certification trainings to strengthen your outdoor leadership skills, or simply unwind and engage with fellow Girl Scouts and camp enthusiasts. With overnight and day-only options, this event offers the perfect chance to step up, relax, and leave with new knowledge, new friends, and a renewed sense of purpose for all adults and volunteers!

Whether you're building confidence, expanding your expertise, or simply looking to learn something new, the outdoor and wilderness learning series is for you! This event is open to all adults, volunteer or nonmember, so bring your friends!

About Lazy Acres
Nestled in the San Isabel National Forest near the town of Rye, this green, rustic property is the perfec location for a hike to the creek, exploring the woods, and find beautiful overlooking views as you relax and reflect in nature. Up to 40 can sleep on mattresses on the floor of the lodge or in cabins that sleep 4 to 6 in each building. There are three different cabin sites at Lazy Acres. Each cabin has between 4 and 6 beds, depending on the site, for sleeping. The Mountain unit has electricity, the Meadow and Forest sites do not. Each site has a latrine with an inside light and a porch light. 

Overnight guests must bring their own linens, either a sleeping bag or twin-sized bedroll, and pillows. 

Meals

  • All participants will be provided lunch on the days they are registered to attend courses.
  • Friday overnight guests should plan to eat dinner before arrival.
  • Saturday overnight guests will be provided dinner. 
  • All overnight guests will be provided breakfast the following morning(s).

We will do our best to honor all dietary restrictions and allergies. Please be sure to provide us with this information during registration.

Lodging
Overnight stays will cost participants an additional $40 per night. This cost includes meals noted above.

Courses offered at Lazy Acres OWLS Weekend include:

Let's Go Camping: This training is required to take Girl Scout groups on front-country camping trips.

Advanced Outdoor Skills: Build on your Let's Go Camping training to level up your campcraft with gourmet campfire cooking, knots and lashing, map and compass work, and hands-on facilitation skills designed for next-level Girl Scout adventures.

Adult Archery Training: Become certified to lead beginner Archery programs.

Fun Facilitator: Learn the camp facilitator ropes with hands-on training in leading songs, games, traditions, and inclusive outdoor experiences that make Girl Scouting unforgettable.

Small Craft/Padding: Become certified to lead Girl Scouts in canoe, kayak, and stand-up paddle board adventures.

American Red Cross First Aid/AED/CPR: Become certified in Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR and AED use.

CANCELLED - Kitchen Crew: Learn how to use an industrial kitchen, prep and cook meals for large groups, and learn the foundations of food safety as part of our Kitchen Crew!

CANCELLED - Backpacking: Learn the basics of overnight trips in the backcountry! Explore equipment use, food options, campsite selection, and more for a safe adventure.

  • Financial Aid is available for members only.
  • Event capacity is very limited. Registration will close when capacity is met.

If you have trouble completing registration, please contact inquiry@gscolorado.org or 877-404-5708.

If you cannot attend a Girl Scouts of Colorado event, please cancel to allow another Girl Scout to take your spot! Full refunds will be given up to two weeks before the registration deadline, partial refunds (minus a $5 processing fee) will be given within two weeks of the deadline, and no refunds will be given after the registration deadline.
