Girl Scouts is partnering with with Fast Enterprises to offer Camp
Code for Girls. This one-week camp is designed for Girl Scouts
entering the 8th, 9th, and 10th grades. Campers will participate in a
variety of educational coding games and activities led by experienced
female software developers from FAST Enterprises.
Some
of the activities at Camp Code include:
- Pseudocode: Campers work together on a partner drawing activity and afterward, complete a guided code exercise online.
- Android Fundamentals
- Object Oriented Programming
- Android App Development including layouts, styles, widgets, and Java programming. Campers build and customize three different Android Apps throughout the week -- Tic-Tac-Toe App, Calculator App, Coin Flipper App
- Cryptography
Women working in various technology-focused professions will provide guest presentations intended to spark Girl Scouts curiosity about future careers in the STEM fields and the diverse opportunities available to women who code.
Near the end of the last day, family and friends are invited to attend camper presentations. Campers provide a summary of what they learned at camp and demonstrate one of the apps they created.
As a technology company, Fast Enterprises recognizes that there is a lack of women in technology fields. They are hosting this camp for Girl Scouts with the hope of introducing girls to the opportunities available to them in these fields. Camp is valued at $450. However, Fast Enterprises covers the entire cost as part of their commitment to increasing the number of women in tech. A $25 commitment fee is required at registration in order to reduce no-shows. This fee can be waived in cases of financial hardship.
On each camp day, please drop your campter off between 8:30-9 a.m. and pick up between 3- 3:30 p.m.
