On International Day of the Girl (IDG) the Global Community come
together to celebrate the power of girls and highlight, discuss, and
take action to advance the rights of and opportunities for girls
everywhere.
Sound familiar? We all know that Girl Scouts change the
world!
On October 12 at Girl Scout DreamLab, we will virtually connect
with Eugenia in Ghana and Nighat in Pakistan! They will enlighten
Girl Scouts about their educational experiences and what it's like
to be a girl in their communities.
Also at this event, Girl Scouts will engage in:
* Literacy Rates in Colorado and Around the World
* Parity
and Equity in Education Around the World
* Barriers to Girls'
Access to Education
* Formal and Informal Education
*
Peace Corp interactions with Girls' Access to Education
* The
Documentary Girl Rising
Caregivers need to know: Girl Rising is an informative, educational
documentary about the lives of impoverished girls living in countries
where education for girls isn't a priority. Directed by
Oscar-nominated documentarian Richard Robbins (Operation Homecoming)
and narrated by A-list stars including Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway,
and Selena Gomez, the film explores the dangerous inequalities that
girls and young women face in parts of the world. Some of the segments
deal with intense and disturbing topics including slavery, child
marriage, rape, and human trafficking. There are matter-of-fact
discussions of these issues, but nothing graphic is shown.
The 2024 International Day of the Girl patch is provided with
registration.
Pack a lunch and be ready for some great discussions.
