WaterCycle - Combining Biking with Education and Storytelling - DBJC

Date:
Mon Sep 06, 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Category:
Girl Scout Events
Level:
Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes
Region:
Mountain Communities

The Water Cycle is an all-female crew, partially funded by National Geographic, biking 2000 miles from the source of the Colorado River to the sea! Along their journey they will be stopping at points to talk to Girl Scouts about the ins and outs of bike packing and our local Colorado River watershed.

Hands-on stations will include science exploration and experiments, a collaborative art project with kids throughout the watershed, and trying out bike backpacking gear. Girl Scouts will learn what it’s like to be on an all-female bike team, about the watershed and hydrology, as well as have the opportunity to write a letter to a girl downstream that illustrates the activities they love to do in the Colorado River!

Activities are geared towards Daisy through Cadettes.

A film crew will be accompanying the bike crew to document the journey and highlight the resilience of women in adventure sports, in tandem with the story of everyday people’s relationship to the river and how resilient they are with the Colorado Watershed.

Additionally, the collaborative art project will be donated to a public space!

A photo release form will be collected, as Girl Scouts may be included in scenes of the girls working on the collaborative art project, scenes of kids exploring the scientific equipment and the bike equipment, and maybe an audio clip or two if any of the girls say something profound!
