The only Leadership Award requiring staff approval is the Service to Community Bar. This award to is designed to give girls experience working with one organization in the community, The organization agrees to train the candidate and provides opportunity for a minimum of 20 hours of service. An hour log should be submitted with the form. The Torch and Service to Girl Scouting Awards are approved by the leader or adult. The report should be submitted so that GSCO has a record of the recognition. Detailed information is found in the “Handbook” section of Girls Guide to Girl Scouting (GGGS) for these age levels. A community service log can be found in the “My Girl Scouts” section of the GGGS.
The service hours for these bars need to be separate from those you use toward other awards. Each bar represents a new project, and can only be earned once at each program level. Awards can be purchased at the GSCO retail shop. An email is sent permitting purchase for the Service to Community Bar. Troop adults may purchase the Torch and Service to Girl Scouting recognitions without staff approval.
