Brownies plant 210 trees in Hayman burn area
Submitted by Cindy O.
Troop 256 leader
May 13, 2009 -- On May 2, my 2nd grade Brownie Troop (256) planted 210 trees in the Hayman fire burn area. We voted to donate $300 of our cookie money toward the reforestation of that area and then spent the morning outside of Deckers planting trees.
Earlier in the year we had a naturalist from the Coalition of the Upper South Platte (CUSP) come talk to us about forest fires in Colorado and fire ecology. The girls truly enjoyed themselves and felt a great sense of accomplishment from this activity. They would like to do it again next year, only bump up the number of trees to 420!
