Grand Junction Girl Scouts earn Gold Award

Not only has Girl Scouting always been a passion of mine, but cheerleading has as well. I’ve always dreamed of earning my Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouts, ever since I joined Girl Scouts as a Brownie. I couldn’t have thought of a better way to earn that award than through a cheer camp. I figured putting my love and passion into my award would motivate me even that much more.
I worked with my best friend of many years, Jennifer, on this project. We hosted the camp for children in grades K-5 at Dual Immersion Academy in Grand Junction. I thought this was a wise choice because students at Dual Immersion don’t usually receive opportunities that other kids do. While I was in charge of teaching the cheer and pumping up the kids, Jennifer’s job was to teach the dance and hold a parent meeting.
The camp, which we held in the late part of April/early May, went extremely smooth, and I had the best time with the girls! Working with children always reminds me to enjoy the small things in life. The smiles on their faces when we gave them each their matching shirts and ribbons gave me a huge sense of accomplishment. However, the best part of the entire experience was when Jennifer and I handed out information about Girl Scouts. Each and every one of them said they “couldn't wait to join!”
Girl Scouts has been such a positive experience in my life and turned me into who I am today. Knowing that I passed that on to others through this project was a feeling I can’t even explain.
