Western Slope Girl Scouts ring in spring at annual event

May 8, 2009 -- A windy spring day didn’t dampen the spirits of 300 Girl Scouts from the Western Slope on April 25 as they participated in the 16th annual spring event in Grand Junction’s Veterans and Lions Memorial Parks.

“I believe today will be a good day so long as it doesn’t rain,” said Troop 107’s Leader Cheryl A.

This year’s event theme was the Olympic Games. Girls enjoyed crafts, games and music as they learned all about the ancient and modern Olympic Games.

“You know, I just like today!” said participant Gabi O. with Troop 1078.

“Today so far has been awesome!” said Riley C. of Troop 107.

“This is so cool!” said Melanie B. of Troop 107.

Some of the activities of the day included building an Olympic Village, riding in a chariot race, making ancient Greek vases, and singing and dancing to traditional Greek music. Additionally, an Olympic Torch ceremony opened the games.

“I think being here and representing our troop is just fun!” said participant Libby W. of Troop 55.
