Daisies, Brownies take teddy bears on picnic
What's better than a picnic with your best friends and your favorite stuffed animals? For Daisy and Brownie Girl Scouts from Alamosa and Conejos counties, the Feb. 23 Teddy Bear Picnic was top-notch.
The girls came dressed in fancy party dresses, dress-up clothes, plastic heels, floppy hats and crowns. They brought their favorite teddy bears, kitty cats and even elephants along with them.
The Teddy Bear Picnic also was a chance to teach the girls about manners and table etiquette. The girls learned how to set a table prior to a meal and talked about the importance of helping parents clear tables after a meal.
Each Girl Scout brought a sack lunch and as they ate, listened to lessons about how to sit at a table properly and what conversations and voices are appropriate at the table.
They shared what they considered their personal favorite restaurants and foods with each other. The girls were very interested in some of the favorite foods other girls chose because they had never tried them before. Discussions took place among the girls and many said they were more willing to try certain foods after hearing others talk about them.
The girls were quizzed on silverware placement and manners in general. They also played games that taught them more about each other and had lots of fun!
