Gift of Caring/Hometown Heroes program
Making the world a better place is central to the Girl Scout mission. During the 2010 Cookie Activity, Girl Scouts continued to honor the non-profit organizations, food banks, military and uniformed personnel who are so important to our community through Girl Scouts’ Gift of Caring/Hometown Heroes program. Through this program, customers had the opportunity to purchase a package(s) of cookies to donate to Girl Scouts’ heroes – a perfect solution for those who pass on the tempting treats! Girls learned more about the invaluable work of their recipients by taking tours, learning about careers in public service and helping with community service projects. All Gift of Caring/Hometown Heroes purchases are tax deductible. The 2010 numbers are still being finalized, but the 2009 statewide program netted more than 111,000 boxes for hundreds of community organizations.
Hometown Heroes in action!
If your troop has selected the military as their Hometown Hero, please select one of the following methods to donate your cookies:
- For Denver Metro area troops please contact Kay Martley at mart1k@yahoo.com to help coordinate cookies that will be shipped by a Denver-based organization to benefit our local and overseas troops. If you have a personal contact in the military, this group can ship the cookies to that individual. All you have to do is provide the address of the recipient.
- For Hearts Across the Miles, another Denver-based group, you must first make a reservation. You can contact Hearts Across the Miles at hatm@comcast.net.
- For Operation Gratitude (primarily used outside of Denver Metro Area), please work with your regional Product Sales Director to figure out how to work with this organization. This organization is based out of California, so actual cookie boxes should not be collected by your troop. Instead, the cookies will be "virtual" and will go directly from the cookie bakery warehouse to Operation Gratitude. The regional Product Sales Directors are:
- MaryAnn D., Grand Junction Service Center - Regions 1 & 2 (Durango, central mountains and Western Slope)
- Mary P., Colorado Springs Service Center - Regions 3 & 4 (southeastern Colorado)
- Dorothy G. or Stephanie H., Denver Service Center - Regions 5 & 6 (Denver metro)
- Carolyn S., Ft. Collins Service Center - Regions 7 & 8 (northeastern Colorado)
