Special Interest Girl Scout Troops

Girl Scouts of Colorado is excited to bring special interest troops to girls 11-18 years of age. Special interest troops include girls who are brand new to Girl Scouting, have returned after taking a break or are currently registered in another troop in their neighborhood. Special interest troops focus on a single interest or a series of related topics and meet the needs of girls who want to dig very deeply into a subject.

Unlike traditional troops, special interest troops focus on topics ranging from dancing to skiing and aerospace. A special interest troop might meet six or eight times a year or once a month. It might consist of a series of meetings that end within a few months or might meet over the same period of time each year.

Special interest troops are great for volunteers who would like to make a short term commitment to a troop. Find out more by contacting Penny Q. at 303-607-4843.

Hiking/Camping Troop

The hiking/camping special interest troop emphasizes hiking and outdoor wilderness skills for girls ages 11-15. Activities include learning to read a map, trip planning, wilderness survival and natural science. The ultimate goal of the troop is to take a trip to the Swiss Alps in about three years. Girls participating in this trip will be responsible for earning their own money and will learn budgeting and bookkeeping. In addition to hiking, girls will do service projects, such as trail repair, and can work independently on earning badges. For more information, contact Clare Marshall at 303-989-7269.

Bike Troop

Join other girls from Denver and the Front Range to explore the vast bike trail system that links Denver’s waterways. The bike special interest troop meets several times during the year for rides on metro Denver trails. Other bicycle related activities may include simple bike maintenance and repair, visiting bike shops and bicycle museums, learning how to buy a bike to fit your body structure and trail maintenance service projects.
