We are shifting the focus from “training” to the much broader “adult learning.” To be consistent with other councils around the United States, Girl Scouts of Colorado is replacing our current Girl Scout Ways and age level training with the following GSUSA learning modules:
• Volunteer Orientation e-Learning module
• Leadership Essentials course (2.5-3 hours)
The first courses will be offered in late July. These courses are currently being scheduled and information will be on this website by May 31st (possibly sooner). Please check the Girl Scouts of Colorado website for specifics or call your local service center after May 31 for a schedule.
Classes will be scheduled around the state for those who want to attend an “in-person” learning opportunity. Volunteer Orientation e-Learning module will also be offered in other formats such as on CD. Eventually Leadership Essentials will be available in an on-line or CD option.
All volunteers (new and experienced) working directly with girls will need to complete the Leadership Essentials course in order to have a thorough understanding of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to ensure all girls have the opportunity to benefit from the new program. Experienced leaders will need to complete this by October 31, 2008. Some sessions will be tailored to the experienced leader. Experienced leaders may also participate in a class that is primarily for new volunteers.
Leadership Essentials is just that—the essentials. As always, additional topics will be covered in other learning opportunities for the adult volunteer’s further development. These learning opportunities will be provided in multiple formats. Input into topics is welcomed.
If you have specific training questions, please contact Stephanie Beckley at 1-888-801-1269 ext. 326.

Girl Scout Ways Home Study Training
Girl Scout Ways Home Study Training is being phased out! It will be replaced with the Volunteer Orientation e-Learning module mentioned above. If you are starting a new troop prior to July 1, 2008, you may still take the Girl Scout Ways Home Study Training (Girl Scout Ways in-person trainings are no longer offered). Girl Scout Ways Home Study Trainings will not be credited after July 15, 2008 as Volunteer Orientation e-Learning module will become available at the end of July. The second training required for all new leaders is now Leadership Essentials; classes will be available at the end of July.
This home study training involves research work, reading, paperwork and patience. This home study may take as long as six to 12 hours overall to complete.
Information on downloads for completing the Girl Scout Ways Home Study (please be sure you have downloaded these items before you begin):

- Information Packet Containing (alphabetical order):
Instructions on page one and two of the workbook tell you the other resources you will need, how to obtain them and where to return your completed workbook within one month.

During the transition from five councils to one, we are combining the different training sessions and combining existing training materials. You may find some repetition of topics . The purpose is to provide more than one opportunity to visit the topics.
