Following the guidelines under the basic trainer requirements will maintain trainer status.
The Trainer:
- Has a positive attitude.
- Has or is willing to develop knowledge relevant to Girl Scouting.
- Is effective in planning, designing, delivering and evaluating.
- Is able to motivate trainees.
- Understands learning styles and uses a variety of training techniques and instructional methods.
- Maintains consistency in course curriculum.
- Exhibits enthusiasm for training and Girl Scouting.
- Participates in finding solutions to problems.
- Promotes Girl Scouting.
- Has good communication skills.
- Observes policies and standards.
- Participates in ongoing evaluation process.
Opportunities for Development
Opportunities are provided to train and continue enhancement of trainer skills.
- Assists with Girl Scouts of Colorado enrichment conferences.
- Participates in trainer updates.
- Makes modifications based on assessments and evaluations.
- Participates in one-on-one trainer development meetings.
- Seeks additional resources for defining delivery and platform skills.
Sabbatical
A sabbatical is a pre-arranged time away from active training for up to two years. While a council trainer is on sabbatical, they are still considered part of the training team.
Term of Appointment
Trainers are expected fulfill responsibilities of the appointment to continue as trainers. Trainers are evaluated annually for a period of four years. At that time, continued participation as a council trainer will be determined by the trainer and the trainer executive.
Evaluation of Trainers
All trainers will be evaluated during the first year after completion of Train-the-Trainer. After this time, ongoing evaluation will be done to ensure that opportunities for growth and improvement are available.
Apprentice trainers will complete a self-evaluation after each session to assist in the development of a skill-building plan.
A training executive will review all evaluations received from session participants and make them available to the trainer. All trainers have the opportunity to evaluate training sessions.
