Why I’ve stayed in Girl Scouts
By Ariel A., 15, of Troop 1719 from Lakewood

Each day I grow one step closer to my independent adulthood, and I can't help but think of one of the most prominent aspects that helped me reach where I am now - Girl Scouts. Read More

Thank you for visiting our site to learn more about Girl Scouts of Colorado. Our council is a non-profit organization serving all of Colorado. We are chartered by Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA), the largest leadership development organization for girls in the world.

Girl Scouts is a safe place for girls to explore their world, develop an understanding and empathy for others and take action to make the world a better place. Girls are guided by committed, caring adults who make learning fun. No other activity helps each girl achieve her personal leadership pathway like Girl Scouting. Girl Scouts has been the nation’s leading expert on girls for nearly 100 years.

Let the good times roll with Girl Scouts!

Girls ages 5 to 17 love to be with other girls. They enjoy the friendship and the chance to share experiences and express their feelings. All of this is possible in Girl Scouts because the organization is dedicated solely to girls - all girls - where, in an accepting and nurturing environment, girls build character and skills for success in the real world. In partnership with committed adult volunteers, girls develop qualities that will serve them all their lives, like leadership, strong values, social conscience, and conviction about their own potential and self-worth. It’s so important for girls to have a safe place where they can just be girls!

Ask any girl member what she loves about Girl Scouting and she’ll probably say "the fun and the friendship." Sports, field trips, outdoor adventure, science experiments, games, learning new things - - you bet it’s fun! And when you’re doing it with friends, that makes it even better!

They probably won’t say that they like building confidence and leadership skills, or that they like learning to be responsible and how to use resources wisely, but they are, in fact, doing these things. In sports they are learning teamwork. When they’re hiking they’re developing healthy habits. As they do community service they’re discovering that giving back to their communities is important. The cookie sale teaches them business and financial skills, responsibility and respect. They’re putting into practice the Girl Scout Law. But, heck - - it’s FUN!
