Time Commitment: 1 year
This volunteer position has a one-year term with the possibility of reappointment at the consent of both the volunteer and Girl Scouts of Colorado (GSCO).

Program Services Managers: My World Initiative and Travel Pathway and Global Girl Scouting Task Force Chair

Summary:
Serve as a member of the Girl Scouts of the USA’s Global Girl Scouting team and Girl Scouts of Colorado to offer global action opportunities to Girl Scouts.  Global Action opportunities may include activities such as World Thinking Day events, a Global Action Series, World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) learning opportunities and international travel experiences. The Global Girl Scouting Task Force member will support the initiative by developing resources for international activities and provide training and support for global programming.

Support:
The Global Girl Scouting Task Force member receives support, guidance, and encouragement from GSUSA’s Global Girl Scouting team, the Global Girl Scouting Task Force Chair and Program Services Managers: My World Initiatives and Travel Pathway. She/he has access to relevant learning opportunities and materials that prepare for and support this role.

Responsibilities/Tasks:

  • Remain informed about and comply with the most current policies, procedures, and guidelines of Girl Scouts of Colorado (GSCO) and Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA).  Including but not limited to those found in Volunteer Essentials.
  • Complete training appropriate for position.
  • Organizing global education events for World Thinking Day.
  • Preparing training to Girl Scout volunteers about Global Girl Scouting.
  • Offering a Global Action Series focused on the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) Global Action theme. 
  • Creating a structure for Girl Scouts and volunteers to travel internationally, meet Girl Guides and Girl Scouts from other countries and/or organize global take action projects.
  • Supporting council led international twinning projects with a member organization of WAGGGS.
  • Serve on at least one Task Force project.
  • Report concerns or issues to the staff contact should an event arise.
  • Assure that all girls are picked up by the appropriate guardian/parent at the end of a program or activity.
  • Keep information confidential.

Qualifications and Core Competencies – Required:

  • Accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law and register as a member of GSUSA.
  • Be an approved adult volunteer with a volunteer application, cleared background check, and two references on file with GSCO.
  • Present a positive image of Girl Scouting to girls, volunteers and community members through effective communication, high personal standards of conduct and knowledge of the Girl Scout program and organization. Promote the benefits of Girl Scouting and the importance of making a personal financial contribution and volunteering time to GSCO.
  • Empower girls to choose and adapt activities, learn by doing, cooperate with others, and reflect on what they’ve accomplished (as well as on current issues that involve their interests and needs) while having fun.
  • Willingness to learn about and work with adults and girls with diverse backgrounds/abilities. Adjust, modify own behavior, and remain flexible and tolerant in response to changing situations and environments.
  • Familiarity with and knowledge of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) or willingness to learn.
  • Demonstrate dependability, honesty and credibility.
  • Express ideas and facts clearly and accurately using both oral and written communication.
  • Access to e-mail and the Internet, plus knowledge of social media.

Additional Competencies, Skills, or Requirements – Preferred:

  • International experience.  Experience maybe travel or international studies.
  • Training and facilitation skills.
  • Bilingual / Multilingual.
  • Complete required coursework as assigned and provided by GSCO and GSUSA
  • Make a personal financial contribution to Girl Scouts of Colorado. (The amount or form of gift is up to the individual.)
