Reach for the Peak has been an annual outdoor skills competition for over 25 years. Girls compete in knot tying skills, camping skills including site selection, tent setup, leave no trace skills, and many more skills. Reach for the Peak is a chance for girls to learn new skills, refine learned skills, and demonstrate their expertise in competition. Troops are awarded the Marmot, Big Horn Sheep, Eagle or Peak Award for their efforts. Juliette's are welcome to form teams or join others for the event.

Call for volunteers: Reach for the Peak is seeking adult volunteers for the year-round committee and judges for the competiton. The committee plans and runs the event each year with meetings monthly. Teleconferencing during some of these meetings is possible. Judges are committed the weekend of the event and may be assigned as a hike judge or station judge, based on interest.

Well, The Colorado Women’s Bar Association is opening up an internship position for you. For those interested, you will be attending their monthly board meeting (held on the third Wednesday of the month at 5:30 p.m.), choose a committee to be involved in, and help their Ad Hoc Committee plan a program for younger girls.

The CWBA’s would like applicants to submit a letter of interest explaining why they're interested in the internship, as well as which committee they'd be interested in participating with and why.  They should also submit a resume and the names of two references by September 14th to Cortney.Healy@gscolorado.org

This special Girl Scout event at the Boulder History Museum will educate and celebrate all things HISTORY; scouts will learn about the beginning of the Girl Scout organization in 1912, its famed founder Juliette Low and about the history of our community.   Events will include fun and hands-on stations throughout the museum and its grounds that focus on the HISTORY theme, as well as opportunities to work towards the Vi and Tula Petals (Daisy), Celebrating Community and Brownie Girl Scout Way badges (Brownie) and The Girl Scout Way and Playing the Past badges (Junior).  Other events and activities include: birthday cake (Juliette’s Birthday is in October!), design your own badge and BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND: Low’s Legacy - Juliette Low historical reenactment at 1 & 3pm.

A lively and energetic performance!  Both girls and adults will be entertained and learn about the life story of Juliette “Daisy” Low and the development of the Girl Scouts in the U.S., through a number of props, interactions with the audience and a reproduction of Daisy’s own uniform.

Children under 5 are free, 5 and up are $3, Adults are $6, and Seniors are $4. Capacity 125 people.

The Falcons would like to invite Girl Scouts out to the Air Force Academy on Saturday, September 28th to watch the Falcons take on Wyoming and participate in a pre-match clinic with Air Force coaches and players.  Game time is scheduled for 6 pm and the clinic will start at 4:30 in the East Gym of the Cadet Gymnasium.  Following the hour long clinic, fans can stick around to cheer on the Falcons as they host rival Wyoming in a showdown at Falcon Court starting at 6pm.  Tickets to the event are just $2 for Scouts and $5 for adults.  The first 300 fans will also receive a commemorative Air Force velcro wallet stuffed with coupons.  Tickets are available on game day only at the entrance of Falcon Court, no early reservation necessary.  For more information contact 719-333-0260.

If you'd like to reduce the pollution caused by plastic bags, now's your chance to speak up.  Denver City Council is asking for input on a proposed 5 cent fee for every plastic and paper bag used to carry out groceries in Denver. The City wants people to carry reusable bags instead. 

You can learn more about the issue, then take action.  Send a letter to Mayor Hancock and the Denver City Council person who represents your area and explain your position. Or create your own 2 minute presentation to share with the Denver City Council at its meeting on Tuesday September 30 from 5pm - 8pm.
