Time Commitment: 1-8 day(s)

This volunteer position’s term is dependent on the duration of the events or series volunteering with.   The possibility of reappointment for additional events or series is at the consent of both the volunteer and Girl Scouts of Colorado (GSCO).

Reports to:
Event / Series Program Coordinator / Program Department Staff 

Summary:
The Event/Series Volunteer supports the implementation of a community, regional, or council events and/or series by completing tasks or presentations assigned in partnership with adults and girls.

Support:
The Event/Series Volunteer receives support, guidance, and encouragement from the Event/Series Coordinator and Program Department Staff. She or he has access to relevant learning opportunities and materials that prepare for and support this role.

Responsibilities/Tasks:

  • Remain informed about and comply with the most current policies, procedures, and guidelines of Girl Scouts of Colorado (GSCO) and Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA).  Including but not limited to those found in Volunteer Essentials.
  • Complete training appropriate for position. Training includes Girl Scouting 101 for Series and Events volunteers and additional training related to specific event or series.
  • Assist in fun, interactive, girl-led activities, and presentations that address current girl interests and needs.
  • Communicate effectively and delivers presentations and information to the individual or group.
  • Support and encourage girls in attaining desired goals and awards.
  • Ensure that the program administered in the assigned event/series provide the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) by utilizing journey books and The Girls’ Guide to Girl Scouting, customized with additional local experiences.
  • Complete tasks as assigned.
  • Serve as a positive example for girls by modeling positive attributes such as reliability, respect for others, inclusiveness, and a positive attitude.

Qualifications and Core Competencies – Required:

  • Accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law and register as a member of GSUSA.
  • Be an approved adult volunteer with a volunteer application, cleared background check, and two references on file with GSCO.
  • Present a positive image of Girl Scouting to girls, volunteers and community members through effective communication, high personal standards of conduct and knowledge of the Girl Scout program and organization. Promote the benefits of Girl Scouting and the importance of making a personal financial contribution and volunteering time to GSCO.
  • Willingness to learn about and work with adults and girls with diverse backgrounds/abilities. Adjust, modify own behavior, and remain flexible and tolerant in response to changing situations and environments.
  • Empower girls to lead activities, learn by doing, and cooperate with others on current issues that involve their interests and needs, while having fun.
  • Personal integrity: Demonstrate dependability, honesty, and credibility.

Additional Competencies, Skills, or Requirements – Preferred:

  • Experience in event / series topic or core curriculum
  • Experience leading activities for youth.
  • Access to e-mail and the Internet.
  • Bilingual
  • Make a personal financial contribution to Girl Scouts of Colorado. (The amount or form of gift is up to the individual.)
