Discover All You Can Be

Discover All You Can Be

The Program

This afterschool program is for girls age 5-15 affiliated with housing developments, low resource schools and/or who are often homeless or transient. The program offers an additional afterschool activity and encourages girls to become part of the community and meet other girls in their neighborhood. This program was developed in 1982 with the Denver Housing Authority.

Discover All You Can Be follows the schedule of a traditional Girl Scout troop meeting. The goal of all programming is to develop leadership skills in girls through hands-on, girl-led activities. The three keys to girl leadership are:

  • Discover: Girls understand themselves and their values and use their knowledge and skills to explore the world.
  • Connect: Girls care about, inspire and team with others locally and globally.
  • Take Action: Girls act to make the world a better place.

Girls gain a sense of accomplishment, learn new skills, learn to make positive life decisions and increase their self-esteem.

How it works

The girls meet within their housing development or school for one hour during the school year or as a summer program. Girl Scouts of Colorado provides paid and/or volunteer adults to fill the role of “Troop Leaders”. The organization hosting the program provides a meeting location, recruits girls, and recommends possible volunteers for the program. All girls receive Girl Scout membership. The cost is based on your organizational need and resources.
