Community Events Recruiter

Time Commitment:  1 year

This volunteer position has a one-year term with the possibility of reappointment at the consent of both the volunteer and Girl Scouts of Colorado (GSCO).

Reports to: Girl Scouts of Colorado Staff


Summary:
The Recruiter is responsible for the recruitment of girls and adult volunteers within identified target markets to join by one or more of the defined and available pathways to participation in Girl Scouting.   The primary venue of recruitment will be at community fairs/festivals and universities. The nature of this position requires the individual to provide both direct and indirect service to girls. This role could be filled by an adult or teen volunteer.

Support:
The Volunteer Recruiter receives support, guidance, and encouragement from the Membership Manager and Volunteer Services Team. She or he has access to relevant learning opportunities and materials that prepare for and support this role.  GSCO will provide proper recruitment materials (brochures, handouts, table displays) for each recruitment event attended.

Responsibilities/Tasks:

  • Remain informed about and comply with the most current policies, procedures, and guidelines of Girl Scouts of Colorado (GSCO) and Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA).  Including but not limited to those found in Volunteer Essentials.
  • Complete training appropriate for position.
  • Maintain current knowledge of all council and regional program offerings and available volunteer positions.
  • Provide potential volunteers with consistent messaging regarding Girl Scouting, available opportunities, benefits of volunteering, and application process.
  • Provide potential girl members with a consistent message about Girl Scouting and all of the possible ways girls can participate in the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE).
  • Maintain current knowledge of the Girl Scout program, pathways, and activities.
  • Manage and follow up with leads on new candidates and inactive Girl Scout volunteers.
  • Represent and continuously educate the community on Girl Scouting participation options
  • Distribute current and relevant marketing materials and recruitment information.

Qualifications and Core Competencies – Required:

  • Accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law and register as a member of GSUSA.
  • Be an approved adult volunteer with a volunteer application, cleared background check, and two references on file with GSCO.
  • Present a positive image of Girl Scouting to girls, volunteers and community members through effective communication, high personal standards of conduct and knowledge of the Girl Scout program and organization. Promote the benefits of Girl Scouting and the importance of making a personal financial contribution and volunteering time to GSCO.
  • Willingness to learn about and work with adults and girls with diverse backgrounds/abilities.
  • Experience in community cultivation and networking.
  • Ability to work and communicate well with people and proactively seek resolution to conflict.
  • Use discretion in all confidential matters.

Additional Competencies, Skills, or Requirements – Preferred:

  • Bilingual
  • Experience with volunteer or human resources recruitment.
  • Sales, marketing, and public-speaking experience.
  • Make a personal financial contribution to Girl Scouts of Colorado. (The amount or form of gift is up to the individual.)
